SIHANOUKVILLE: Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged truck owners to use the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway rather than National Road No. 4 as it is more convenient and saves both time and money. He made this statement after noticing that the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has so far been mostly used by small cars, with only a few trucks passing through.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Street 146B connecting to Street 148 in Sihanoukville on Thursday morning, 22 December, Prime Minister Hun Sen told truck owners, "Using this expressway is more profitable than regular roads since it uses less fuel and time and generates more profit in the supply chain. Owners who have a lot of vehicles should know that some drivers steal fuel while on the road. On the highway, they can no longer steal fuel; the decision is not on the drivers but the owners of the vehicles.”

The Prime Minister stated that if a variety of vehicles travel on the highway, road accidents on National Road No. 4 will also be reduced.

It should be noted that the cost of using the expressway for small and light vehicles is US $22 roundtrip. Meanwhile, trucks carrying more than 10 to 20 tons cost will need to pay a fee of roughly 25 cents per kilometer. Additionally, trucks carrying more than 20 tons (including containers) will have to pay a fee of roughly 32 cents per kilometer.
